IIT-JEE, PMT: is the Competition becoming tough OR something ELSE?

In today’s competitive era, if there is anyone who is under huge pressure from all the sides, it is STUDENT. It is sad to observe that the aim of imparting knowledge is somehow being left behind and being overtaken by enormous amount of pressure on students to achieve a false immediate goal. The aim is changing. The students are least taught of application part of their education and thus leaving them with abstract understanding of subject. The core of education lies in making students understand the application part of it. The way in which subjects are introduced to the students devoid of its daily application has been the root cause of the present scenario as experienced by everybody. If Student loose interest in learning process, they would not be able to correlate their learning to practical application of it. It is not just the information that is sufficient to trigger the innovation, along with, it is the application part of it that makes the education complete in broader sense.

While celebrating and experiencing the scientific advancements, it is pertinent to note the way in which one experiences subject application in daily life from the time one gets up from bed till one goes to bed at night. An attempt should be made by teachers to illustrate some of these instances in the class, particularly to motivate children to learn the subject with interest and enthusiasm. May we generate more Ramanujans from our students in spite of the environment they learn, with motivation given by subject experts to identify the capable and encourage them suitably to bring Aryabhatts, Bramhguptas, Madhavas, and Bhaskaracharyas amongst them.

Competitive exams like JEE and Pre Medical Test (PMT) requires the understanding of basic fundamentals and that’s where depth becomes more important than breadth. The recent trends of the cutoff going down year by year shows the basic understanding of subjects going down among students in-spite of exams becoming easier day by day. Here becomes the QUALITY more important than the QUANTITY. Role of a GURU is not only to Teach but to Educate so that students can excel in all areas of their life. Let the exams result become bi-product of learning, not the other way. Let’s nourish the root so that the fruits, by default, become shinier and sweeter. Let the teaching process be linked to social as well as personal development to prepare the young generation to take challenging task of elevating the society in large. Let the knowledge prevail over information. Let the kids feel de-pressurized. Let the students develop the interest in science. Let’s not make the education a Burden.
